Need Advice for Kids' Magic
Hey everyone! I've got a show on Monday for kids (aged 6 to 13), and it'll be my first time performing magic for that age group. Any advice?
Thanks

In a conversation with Carlos Adriano on this very topic, he gave me a piece of advice that I'll pass on to you, since it worked for me.
Every kid, absolutely EVERY SINGLE ONE, will tell you that playing is how they have fun. Don't "do magic for them" — play with them, have fun, and don't try to impress them. Don't be afraid to look silly. Your mission is for them to have fun, to laugh, not to blow their minds like you would with adults. Play, play, and play.
Morning everyone!
I've performed magic at my daughter's school several times, and based on my experience, I can tell you kids absolutely love magic. They get captivated and amazed, and they're the most honest audience you'll find. So, if they catch you or don't like a trick, they'll tell you straight up, no regrets. On the flip side, if they love it and get excited, you'll feel that energy tenfold.
I read above that you shouldn't use cards. I'd actually say you can use them, and kids usually really enjoy card magic. Of course, you need to filter which effects you do based on their age. If they're really young, simple color changes, a "wow" effect, or something similar works well.
For example, when it comes to cards, my niece is turning 7 and she loves it when I do card magic for her. It's her favorite kind of magic, and at that age, I can do more complex tricks for her. If your audience is a mixed group of 6- to 13-year-olds, you'll have to adapt accordingly.
I'd also say, based on my experience, don't treat them differently. Obviously, tailor the show to their age, but kids are kids, not fools.
Their minds will be blown, and they'll have a blast if you're having fun and really selling the effects to them.
And as I read earlier, find a connecting thread that guides them from one trick to the next.
Don't go overboard with the time. It's better to leave them wanting more than to bore them.
So, more or less, those are my tips. I'm no expert, but I'm a dad to a 5-year-old girl, an uncle to a 7-year-old niece, and I've performed magic for little ones in preschool and school, as well as improvised on the street and in parks.
Good luck, and I hope these help!
Hey everyone!
I've done shows for kids that age before, and I can definitely tell you that what they liked the most was the mouth coils, because what surprises them most is the unexpected!

Hey @Magical_pablo:
I've got a few ideas for the show. Here are some of them:
-Large props
-Inventing a story as a through-line
-Interactions every 15 seconds, max.
-No card tricks
I'll write back later with more ideas when I have time.
Hope some of these help!
