Controlling Two Cards to Top and Bottom
Hey there! I was wondering if anyone knows of any tutorials for false shuffles or cuts that would allow me to control two cards that have been lost in the deck (first one, then the other) so that one ends up on top and the other on the bottom. I know how to control a card to the top and to the bottom, but I can't control two without disturbing the position of the first. What I mean is, I can get one card to the top, but then I don't know how to get another to the bottom without affecting the top card, and vice versa.

I think there are actually a ton of ways to do this; the important thing is that it fits your card handling style. One option would be Kaplan's multiple control with a short corner.
Right now, if I had to do it, I'd get a break under the chosen card when it goes back into the deck, and then shuffle the lower packet over the upper packet of the break to bring it to the bottom while pretending to lose it (you could also do a cull or tpc, but I like this better).
Now you have them select a card the same way and lose it just like before, leaving a break under the chosen card again. Again, we shuffle, but this time we only take the upper packet from the break and peel cards until the chosen card is on top. And there you have it.
I think everything is pretty consistent—you have them choose the same way, lose it the same way, and shuffle after inserting each card. But hey, like I said, it really comes down to individual preference and what flows best for you.
Hey José Antonio,
Here's an idea you could try...
You perform a swing cut and "lose" the first card, bringing it to the top with a double cut.
Repeat the same action for the second card.
Then you do a strip-out shuffle... strip the first card, then the second, and continue shuffling the rest in packets.
Now that you have both cards on the bottom, do another shuffle, holding back the last card, and as you finish the shuffle, run the last few cards one by one.
Now you have one on the bottom and one on the top.
Hope that makes sense. 😉
The easiest way is to control both cards to the bottom. Get a break above the bottom card, and with a double cut, bring that one to the top, leaving the other at the bottom.
I hope this explanation is clear. Let me know if anything's unclear.
Hey! That's how I'd do it too. If I'm not mistaken, that's the technique Vicente Canuto explains in his book, Fundamental Card Magic.
I'd have to figure out how to control both cards to the bottom, but you have to keep in mind that a spectator loses their card, we control it to the bottom, and then another spectator loses theirs, and I'm not sure how to get that second one to the bottom along with the first.
And I'm also not clear on how to bring one up if both are at the bottom.
Because cutting to the second-to-last card would be really strange, wouldn't it?
Check out this video by Julio on how to control cards.
From your comment, I gather you're just starting out, so try to control one card to the bottom first, and once you master that, you can start controlling two.
This video also explains the double cut.
Thanks! I'll put that into practice.
