Ambitious Card Routine, can it be performed sitting down?

Hey everyone!

Yesterday, while practicing the Ambitious Card routine sitting in front of my computer and watching the tutorial video, I started thinking about how to do the two-card drag break if I wanted to perform this trick for people while seated, which is how I usually structure my shows.

I tried bringing the deck down to my hip, but honestly, it's pretty jarring for a magician who always keeps their arms on the table to suddenly move the deck out of the spectator's view, so I scrapped that idea. Then I tried dragging the cards I want to turn over, resting them on the mat, while I hid the deck between my arms, like in a crossed-arms position, but that method doesn't seem clean to me.

I figure this routine can be done a million different ways and doesn't necessarily have to be performed standing up, and the turnover from the break can be handled cleanly, but I'm not sure what the right way would be.

If you could lend a hand with this question, I'd really appreciate it, since it's a super entertaining trick I want to add to my repertoire.

All the best, and thanks!

Super simple: pretend to adjust your chair closer to the table and use both hands to pull it.

Hey Japop, my take is that if you weave in some patter that relates to the trick and keeps them entertained – I mean, not bored, but really hooked on every little detail – it helps cover issues like the one you're having. And obviously, you can't be working on a glass table; you need one where they can't see what's happening underneath. That's pretty obvious, and I'm sure you already know that. Also, I think if you're going to do some patter, just relax your arms. After all, it's something anyone would do. Imagine you're eating a bag of chips with your friends, and they start talking to you; you'd stop eating, relax your arms, and talk, and when you're done, you'd go back to your chips. At least, that's how I see it. Hope my advice helps! Cheers.

Thanks for your comment! I'll try to create some good misdirection to capitalize on that, and I'll keep working on lowering my arms.

All the best,
