A Small Step Into This Grand World

Hey everyone, I'm Ace – that's my nickname. I've been doing magic for 5 years. My first exposure to magic was at 13, messing around with a deck of cards. I started learning from Julio on Magia&cardistry and JulioRivera, but I really got hooked on magic when I saw Miquel Roma's routines like Anti-nemonica, la princesa que nunca existio, nuestros sueños, en todas partes y en ninguna, etc. I was truly impressed not just by the magic, but by his performance style and the poetic flair (so to speak) he brought to it. But I truly fell in love with magic when I first saw "RIBBON by Eric Chien", specifically the AGT (America's Got Talent) version. Later I found out he won the World Championship of Magic with that same routine. Eric Chien's Ribbon is my favorite trick; I love watching it, it's undoubtedly stunning. I've seen all his versions, from the first World Championship version, through Asia's Got Talent, America's Got Talent, up to the recent Spain's Got Talent. Just thinking about the small but huge change he made from the World Championship version to the AGT version blows my mind! And the Asia version, when he hands out candy, also has its own unique touch. Another routine of his that I really like is the Rubik's Cube with M&Ms. When I fell in love with magic, I wanted to learn more, and Julio has been the perfect teacher; I've truly learned a lot from him these past 5 years. Despite being involved in magic for a long time, I'm still learning plenty of routines from Magia&cardistry.

Some of my favorite magicians are Miquel Roma, Shim Lim, Eric Chien, and the master Rene Lavand.

Specifically, the area of magic I excel at most is card magic, but I have some knowledge of magic with rubber bands and sponges.

Currently, I've been able to learn great routines by Miquel Roma, such as Antinemonica, en todas partes y ninguna, among others, since I really enjoy routines with a story.

Currently, I'm working on replicating Eric Chien's Ribbon routine, the AGT version. So far, I've made great progress and I'm 90% through the routine. It's been a long journey, specifically because there are only speculations about the trick, and no tutorial exists for it. So, a large part of it, I've had to figure out myself, using techniques I know and a lot, and I mean a lot, of research. My dream is to be able to replicate 100% of that routine.

It's a dream in progress, and I still have a lot to learn on this magical journey. Unfortunately, to this day, I haven't been able to take any courses to learn more techniques because the currency in many countries is too expensive compared to mine, making the courses too pricey. But I'm grateful to Julio because, despite that, his videos have helped me a lot to learn various techniques and continue on this magical journey.

Hey Ace,

I don't know anything about the trick you mentioned (Ribbon), but I looked it up and found this; maybe it'll help you out. Though I wanted to know how it was done, and part of the video is incomplete—you'll see.

Thanks, and good luck with your dream.

Also, if you were wondering how the full routine is performed, the complete video is actually on his secondary channel. He condensed it for his main channel and didn't upload that specific segment. You can find the full video on @OierAgirresarobe's channel here: . That way, you won't be left with any questions about the vest.

I've watched it several times; I've replayed the video about 8 times, along with other videos. However, what I really need help with is the mat's mechanism for the initial production of the boxes and for the end where coins change into cards and cards into coins. I've already practiced the rest of the trick, but I really appreciate you taking the time to look into it; that's truly helpful. @OierAgirresarobe, thank you so much! Also, if you happen to know anything about how to handle those parts, that would be incredibly useful.

You've got a point, that part isn't really a magician's task; building that table seems more like an engineer's job, if you ask me. And another thing, the video you sent me isn't complete either, because it doesn't show the part where he slides a red card partially into the blue area, making it appear like a card that's half blue and half red.

At the 12:17 mark, I'm not sure if that's the part you're talking about @OierAgirresarobe

If it's not that part, tell me the timestamp from the original video, and I'll look it up and try to answer your question, because I pretty much know the whole trick.

2

Oh, thanks a bunch! I'd love to know how you do that.

@magicamente:

I can show you what I've got for the routine and try to help with any questions you might have.

Oh, thank you so much! I'd really love to learn how it's done.

But first, I wanted to ask how you secretly get a card from the bottom without anyone noticing...

if that's the move you're referring to (taking a card from the bottom).

Well, it's a really complicated move. I've been practicing it for a year and a half for Eric Chien's Ribbon trick, and I still haven't managed to perfect it; it's quite challenging for me. The key is to use your right hand's middle finger to grip the bottom card while pretending to take the top one, simultaneously mimicking a top card extraction. This is achieved by using your left hand's pinky and ring finger to push the bottom card. It's worth noting that there are multiple versions of this technique, and Eric Chien's version is one he perfected to produce the card simultaneously with the top card without any hand movement, or with very minimal movement.

Excuse me, Ace, do you use a special deck, because I'm just starting to get into it.

Thanks.

Hey, no, there aren't any special decks used in this trick. There are some Gimmicks involved, though.

Anyway, if you want to know more about any part or need additional info, don't hesitate to ask. I can show you what I've got of the routine so far and try to clear up any questions you might have.

If I want to perform that trick, I'll need to get some black art.
