Does anyone know how this trick is done? Thanks

Good afternoon, I saw a card magic effect on YouTube, originally called "Circle of Fire," created by Paul Curry. It's super visual and really eye-catching because of the staging, even more so than the effect itself. In the video, a card is basically forced, and flash paper is placed between two coins, balanced on top of a small glass bottle—specifically, Morgan dollars. The effect is performed once for the spectator: the flash paper is burned, and the unburnt part between the two coins is removed, showing nothing written on it. But when the process is repeated, and another piece of flash paper is placed between the two coins, the performer makes a magic gesture, passing the spectator's forced card over the coins several times, seemingly transferring its identity. After lighting the flash paper again... the coins are separated, and now the index and suit of the card appear printed on the part of the flash paper that didn't burn because it was nestled between the two coins. Could an expert please explain how the index and suit of the forced card are transferred to the flash paper? Or is the secret in a Morgan dollar shell? Many thanks.

Basically, you've nailed it 😂.

There isn't much more to explain; just observe the moves and his left-hand handling at the end of the trick.

All the best and good magic!!!

Good evening José Luis, thank you very much for responding. This is indeed the video of the "Circle of Fire" performance I was referring to, but to be honest, I still can't see "the trick." I can't spot anything in the magician's left hand, and I still don't understand how he transfers the value and suit to the flash paper.

Anyway, thanks for your kindness, best regards.

Hey everyone, I got into magic a few months back and I've checked out a bit of everything. I've already practiced some moves and such, and I'm feeling pretty comfortable with them. Any tricks you'd recommend? Thanks!

Hi Andrés,

I'm not sure what your skill level is. Could you tell me more about the techniques you've got down? Just to give you an idea, here are some I consider important in card magic:

  • False shuffles, false cuts
  • Key Card
  • Forcing a card and card control (to the top, bottom, or under the spread)
  • Double Lift, triple, quadruple, etc... Pinky break
  • Emsley Count
  • Palms
  • False deals
  • Pass
  • Vanishes
  • Misdirection
  • Faro shuffle
  • .....

I mean, there are hundreds of techniques and tricks out there.

Personally, I'd focus on the presentation of your routines (that's the most important part). There are many semi-automatic tricks that pack more punch than complex effects with difficult sleights.

These require almost no sleight of hand (you might not believe it, but it's true).

Anyway, let us know which technique you're most comfortable with (even if it's not on this list), and we can recommend some tricks and where to find them (books, YouTube, etc...).

Out of all those, I haven't quite mastered the palm because it just doesn't feel right in my hand, but I'm doing pretty well with all the others.
