Mental Photography Deck
Hey everyone, I recently picked up the Mental Photography deck. When I do a hand spread, the cards come out blank. So far, so good, but what I'd really like is for the hand spread to show all the printed cards first, and then, with a Pass or some other move, have them turn blank. I've messed around with the deck and searched online (couldn't find anything), but I haven't had any luck. It would be a huge help if someone could explain if this is possible (and if so, how) or if it's not. Thanks a lot!

To start, as you said, you'd need to have the roughing fluid on the blank faces. Let's say you'd perform a reverse mental photography routine, which is also valid: starting with printed faces and ending with blank faces. In fact, Richard Pinner's Kid's Kards work this way (even though they don't have blank faces, it's essentially the same principle).
I don't recall seeing anyone do it, but it could absolutely work. I'm guessing it's because roughing fluid tends to show, especially when applied to white, but with today's quality materials, that shouldn't be an issue. I encourage you to gaff that deck yourself and tell us how it goes. You just need to apply the roughing fluid to the blank faces and tinker with it a bit.
Okay, I'll give that a try, thanks a lot!
Hey @Hit_Wer,
So, knowing the secret of that deck (which I assume you already do), you just start with it "in position" to display its printed faces and backs (obviously not with a spread, but more like a cascading display). Then, with a simple "color change" of the top card, you make it white, and, by extension, the rest.
That's the basic framework. From there, it's all about using your imagination and creativity to craft a compelling story for the effect.
Honestly, there's not much more to it than that 😊
All the best and happy magic!!!
Okay, Zeta, thanks a lot.
