Gimmicked Decks

Hey everyone, I'd love to discuss this topic with all of you in the club. What are your favorite gimmicked decks? And any favorite tricks you do with them? I'm really curious to hear what yours are. My two favorite decks are the Invisible Deck and the Stripper Deck. And my favorite trick is a red and black routine with the Stripper Deck. Looking forward to reading your thoughts!

Favorite Decks:

  • Stripper Deck:

Effects: Italo Castillo's Color Separation, finding a selected card or the aces using just a little misdirection.

  • Invisible Deck:

I think it's pretty clear what effect I do with this one.

  • Svengali Deck:

This deck opens up a world of possibilities, like the tricks in these videos:

  • Blank Deck (not sure if I'd classify it as a gaffed deck):

The trick at the end of this video:

And another effect Italo Castillo uploaded, but later deleted. It's really clever and ridiculously easy. It's called the 'Triple Magic Trick.'

Favorite gimmicked decks:

Invisible Deck: I do the classic routine and also the Magic Diary.

Svengali Deck: I perform Card at Any Number minute 7:04

Stripper Deck: my own Water and Oil routine.

Al-Koran Deck: I perform The Gambler, The Magician, and The Mentalist. I also do a trick, though I can't recall its exact name, but it involves the magician putting a rubber band around the deck and tossing it to the audience. The spectator who catches the deck has to lift a portion anywhere and peek at a card. This is done a total of 5 times, and the magician manages to divine each of the cards.

My Favorite Gimmicked Decks (as I've encountered them)

  • Svengali: I perform almost every possible effect with it, except for the one where all the faces change into the same card. This is partly to keep the gimmick from being too obvious (a tip from Italo; I also learned the effects from his channel).
  • Stripper Deck: I haven't fully explored its potential yet, but I've used it for the classic effect of finding the spectator's card, for example, under a handkerchief, after they've shuffled.
  • Al-Korán: For the "gambler, magician, mentalist" effects, which I absolutely love.
  • I recently discovered the Multi-Effect Deck, but I'm still in the study phase, mainly analyzing the effects to create a routine that truly fits my style.

Also, while it's not strictly a deck but rather a single card, I'm a big fan of the "short card" (I'll admit, I'm totally hooked on that one, lol).

Hey there,

If you have a Svengali deck, Ricardo is absolutely spot on. Don't do that trick (I got busted once for doing it myself).

@ricardorg2283:

except for the one where all the faces change to the same card, a bit to avoid tipping the gimmick

I really love the stripper deck; it's incredibly versatile for so many different tricks. I feel like, unlike a lot of other gaffed decks, it's super practical for a wide range of routines and effects.

For me, the Stripper Deck is the most useful. The gimmick isn't visible to the spectator, so they can examine it all they want. You can also do everything you'd do with a regular deck, plus it opens up around 100 additional effects.

There's a really good one called 'Miracle Cards' by Marvins Magic. It combines a marked deck with a stripper or tapered deck, and it's good—not the highest quality, but good for the price. Plus, the marking system is a clock-style one, which is very discreet and effective. It also includes some really good effects and access to an app that lets you do some incredibly impressive techno-magic effects.
