BLACK Art Magic

Could someone help me out with Black Art? I'm using non-elastic black velvet, which from my research seems to be the right material, but I'd like to know if that's correct or if there's another option. I'd also like to know what kind of environment and lighting works best for it. Also, if anyone has any tips, tricks, or general ideas about this art, I'd really appreciate you sharing them so I can learn more and get the most out of this type of magic.

Here are some black art resources I know:

  • Allegro DVDs. Mago Migue. He explains his FISM act, which incorporates black art.

  • 52 Shades of Red. Shim lin. A monograph on black art. I've only skimmed it, so I can't say much about it.

  • Fade to Black. Luis Olmedo. Luis's monograph. It covers how to build the elements, tips, lighting, etc., and many effects (Open Travelers, Cards Through Table,...). It's excellent, highly recommended.

  • Traps in the Shadow. José Arcario's monograph notes on the black coin. A phenomenal work. Highly recommended. It comes with a black coin and material to make more.

As for materials, they recommend black Ironfix, and also a type of mottled felt for a mat, if I recall correctly (I studied this a while ago).

In any case, if you get Luis's work, he explains it in full detail.
