DIY Dice Carrier - Elastic Band Loader
A simple and easy-to-make carrier for keeping your regular or gaffed dice within reach, ready to be produced at any moment.
Skill required:
Basic sewing skills (doesn't have to be perfect).
Materials:
2cm wide elastic band (for sewing).
Needle and black thread.
Contact cement.
A safety pin.
The length of the elastic will depend on how many dice you want to carry and their size; it's always better to have too much elastic than too little.
An easy way to figure out where to start sewing is to do the following.
Secure the die in the middle of the cut elastic.
Pull it taut so it's snug.
While keeping the tension, remove the die.
Then, right where you've marked, start sewing horizontally, top to bottom (or bottom to top).
If you fold the elastic and place the die on it, the measurement would be an extra 1 to 2 mm.
We'd sew along the red line.
From here on, it's all about sewing and reinforcing the stitching well.
Since it's elastic, if you don't sew enough, it can fray.
Ideally, aim for at least two passes.
Now, I use contact cement to seal the stitching securely.
I usually soak it well so it penetrates the elastic.
After just 1 minute, we can check that everything fits.
And continue in the same way.
At this point, we can try them out.
The only thing left is to add the safety pin.
The quickest method is to seal and glue the excess part with contact cement, let it dry for a few minutes, and then thread the safety pin through this area.
But we can also make it a bit more refined.
Thread the fixed part of the safety pin through.
Use the contact adhesive to glue everything down.
Press firmly to ensure it's securely glued.
Once it hardens, fold inward and sew as close to the safety pin as possible.
Trim the excess elastic.
And this is what they'd look like.
And that's about it.
Just wanted to mention that this same idea could be used and adapted to different sizes for loading other objects.
Happy creating and good magic!!!
