The Credit Card Playing Card

This past holiday weekend I was in Madrid, and some pretty wild magic went down there 😅 While eating at a restaurant, a guy there, when it was time to pay, instead of pulling out a credit card, he pulled out a playing card. I'm not sure what he was saying to the waiter because I was too far away, but eventually, the guy swiped the card through the card reader and paid his bill. WOW!!! I thought, and that got me thinking about how it could work 😉

I've been kicking it around for a few days now, and the easiest way I could come up with is to make a sleeve for a credit card.

For now, I've put together a first version. Sorry I don't have photos of the process, but I'll make a definitive one soon and put together a "tutorial." Here's how I did it:

Glue three cards together and cut out the shape of a credit card in the middle, leaving three edges sealed. Then, glue one card to the top and another to the bottom. Here's the result...

The card ends up a bit thicker, which is expected, but I think for a "gag" like this, it's more than good enough ☺️ and if you use it as a closer for a routine at a restaurant before paying, or as a small effect after a meal or something, it could work really well.

When I have step-by-step photos, I'll upload them, and I'm open to any suggestions for improvement 😉

This is a neat idea for a surprise, though the waiter will probably be pretty suspicious, wondering if you actually paid. I'll have to try it out and see their reactions.

Hey there, I've seen it already made at some online magic shops for around 8-9€. Cheers.

That's a really cool idea. You could also apply it to a bill, and it would be a huge kicker; the bill could even be folded.

I think there's already an effect out there where you convert a playing card or a bill into a credit card. This is a different effect, though.

The bill idea could be a good one, but with that type of gimmick, I'm not sure how you'd pull off the effect 🤔

Yeah, aside from people like Julio Montoro and other creators, it's tough to come up with something that hasn't been invented, lol. But you're right, the card to bill could be pretty entertaining as well 😉
