What Do You Do with a Signed Card Afterward?

I'm just starting out, and I see a lot of people have spectators sign cards to make them unique. But what do you do with that card afterward? Do you erase the signature, or do you use a new deck every time a card gets signed?

In addition to what our friend @Zeta mentioned, I'd suggest that if you're going to do this a lot, you get a force deck (52 identical cards) so you can keep replacing them.

Of course, that means you'll have to force that specific card for signing, but that's not really an issue.

Beyond that, I agree with José Luis about giving them away. People will keep them as a souvenir from you.

Just wanted to chime in with one quick thing.

Funny enough, I don't actually use force decks for forcing anything 😊.

In my personal opinion, it feels way too blatant, especially if you're working the same area, for the same "random" card to always come up for everyone who picks one.

That's why I stick with regular decks, which are cheaper than a force deck and actually make you change up your forced card for each trick.

Personally, I use force decks to make all sorts of gimmicks, which they're incredibly useful for.

And what I've used them for the most is for creating all sorts of variations of the torn and restored effect.

That being said, they're obviously still an option, too 😄.

Cheers!!!!

Hey everyone! Something nobody else mentioned: after a card gets signed, it's super important to cap that marker tightly so it doesn't dry out (just kidding, haha).

Alright, on a serious note: Everything mentioned so far is spot on. Here's another idea: if you're just starting out, don't have a lot of resources, and therefore don't want to mark up cards and/or give them away, you can stick on a sticker, have the spectator sign the sticker (that makes it unique), then peel off the sticker (it's easy to do with your fingernail and won't damage the card) and give it to them (and if you're planning on going pro, use a sticker with your branding, like a business card).

All the best,

😂 😂 😂

Generally, signed cards are often given away as souvenirs.

And if you don't give them away, you just use them normally.

The signature doesn't really affect the card. 😊

When you're starting out (especially if you don't want to spend too much), you typically don't do tricks that involve signing or tearing cards...

A card is signed to identify it as unique in a routine involving travel or transposition, or a torn and restored card, just to give a few examples.

Signed cards can be forced or freely chosen. Either way (and if you plan to give the card away), it's ideal to have two identical decks: a primary deck and a backup, gradually replacing cards in one with cards from the other.

As your backup deck runs low on cards, you'll need to start forcing cards from your main deck that you have spares of.

And that's about it! 😊

Cheers and happy magic!!!
