Magic Course

Hey there, I finished Piedrahita's magic course a few months ago and I loved it!

I'm looking for similar courses that aren't too pricey, and I still need to learn techniques like the double flip and stuff like that.

What do you recommend?

That's great, but one question: doesn't his course teach you the Double Lift (double turnover)??

And who says double, says triple, quadruple, or quintuple lift.

It's a widely used technique, and honestly, it's like the 1+1 of magic.

I mean, it's one of the first things everyone should learn in their first week...

(or maybe I just picked things up really fast when I started 😅)

Some people think it's an "advanced" technique ( 🤫 ).

In my opinion, it's simple and straightforward.

All it really takes is practicing it well to make it look "elegant" when you perform it, that's all.

Honestly, there are many ways to do it and execute it.

Gregory Wilson has a video called Double Take where he talks about up to 25 different ways to do it (just in case you don't have enough options 😂).

@ociofrik:

I'm looking for similar courses that aren't too expensive.

Do the math: if you spend an average of at least 30 euros a month on magic for a single trick, that's an average of 360 euros a year.

Any course that costs an average of 30 euros a month isn't expensive, especially if you learn more than just a single trick (it all depends on how you manage your time).

My advice, of course, is based on what I know:

the magiaycardistry school https://escuela.magiaycardistry.com

(and I don't get a commission for promoting them 😅, it's my honest and personal opinion)

You'll get immediate access to over 60 courses (which will increase every month) and a lot more.

Not to mention all the magicians you'll be able to find and with whom you can share ideas and questions "more freely" than in this public forum.

There are other online magic schools and courses, but since I haven't joined them, I can't really comment 😊.

Besides courses like the one @Zeta mentioned or platforms such as Experto en Magia, Cursos de Cartomagia, Pandora (that one's probably a bit more advanced overall), etc., I'm a HUGE fan of books. Vicente Canunto's Fundamental Card Magic is a must-have if you're into card magic. It's a very affordable book and a true treasure you'll find yourself revisiting often.

As for the Double Lift, I don't think it's that essential, even though I use it constantly, lol... I think sometimes we get too technical and overlook certain subtleties (this thought often crosses my mind when reading Ramón Rioboo). When I started with Florensa's books, for example, the Double Lift wasn't even in there, and I learned a ton of magic (in fact, Ramón started with Florensa too, and he cites him constantly). This reminds me that Gabi, in his Cartomagia Club, didn't teach the Double Lift until relatively late—I think it was in the second year, if I recall correctly (and he's another frequent user of the Double Lift). I recall it was because he wanted a solid and critical foundation established first. Ultimately, a poorly executed Double Lift is a real shame, and when we're starting out, we can easily overuse it. In fact, I think that happens quite a bit (myself included); it's possibly the move I see messed up the most. In a way, maybe it's like Ricardo Vizcarra used to say: the Double Lift is like the card Shell. And if with coins, it's always said you should only start using a Shell once you're already comfortable with coin work, then maybe wait with the Double Lift too. Ultimately, you can tell Gabi and Ricardo were kindred spirits, lol. But hey, I don't really have a strong opinion; I don't care when you learn it, as long as you learn it well and with good judgment.

Regarding the Double Lift, Paloma Bravo's book El secreto a la vista is a very comprehensive study as well. I'm a huge fan of Dámaso's (approach), even though I still can't do it... someday!!! And Giancarlo Scalia's DVD Magia en Malasaña has some brilliant little touches (the DVD overall is fantastic).

Hello. There's a FREE 52-week course on YouTube by an excellent and clear instructor, ITALO CASTILLO: "CARD MAGICIAN IN 90 DAYS." You can access multiple fantastic tricks by searching for him on YouTube.

While it's not a course, a book you should definitely check out is "Fundamental Card Magic" by Vicente Canuto 👀 which I think goes for around 30 euros and teaches a ton of great stuff.

I recommend you really practice what you already know.
