The Great Camilo Vázquez and his Special Close-Up Magic (and Ascanio appears in the third video)

Hey everyone!

I want to share some videos of the great magician Camilo Vázquez, especially for those who might not know him.

Among his many awards, he won the title of World Champion of Close-Up Magic at FISM '73 in Paris. He's one of the classic figures from Galicia.

The videos aren't the best quality, but you can still appreciate his talent, his artistry... everything about him. I didn't find a lot, but what's available is definitely worth watching.

I'm fascinated by him – to each their own, of course – but if you enjoy close-up magic in general, especially table and bar magic, you'll love him.

Close-Up Magic: While the definition of magic refers to close-up magic as magic performed at a very close distance with no more than 4 people around the magician, the concept of close-up magic actually refers to magic with small objects.

Typically, this type of magic uses common household objects like: toothpicks, paper clips, safety pins, matches, coins (even if there's a specific type called coin magic), paper, bills, needles, rubber bands, pencils, etc.

As a result, due to the small size of the objects, performances are typically for only a few people; however, with the use of cameras on television and in certain venues, close-up magic sessions are performed for large audiences via screen viewing.

(Definition taken from the wiki -https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micromagia- because it was easier to copy/paste, and it's a perfect definition)

Best wishes to all and happy magic!!!

Thanks @Zeta !!

I wasn't familiar with the Great Camilo.

Are there any current magicians you're a big fan of as well?

Cheers!

Seriously??? Juan Tamariz really raved about him!

Well, as for "current" mmm, I really couldn't say because I'm totally disconnected from TV, and I don't even watch shows like Got Talent online.

Basically, when it comes to really current stuff, I don't particularly follow anyone.

With the magicians from the last 50 years, I'd need 20 lifetimes just to learn from all of them.

The most current (for me) and what I'm totally focused on is Dani Daortiz. Though I still go back to Leonard Green, Juan Tamariz, Woody Aragón, René Lavand, Richard Turner, and a long list of others.

Generally speaking, I'm not familiar with many new magicians, though I do follow a lot of magicians, especially on Instagram (that darn overuse of the Double Lift 🤣 🤣 🤣), but for no particular reason. I'm still focused on learning from the greats.

Camilo is one of the greats; EMM just wouldn't be the same without him. He's also an absolutely wonderful person.

We've always talked about how much of a bummer the timestamp is in the third video. Does anyone happen to have the original?
