Lack of Motivation
Hey everyone, I'm not sure if there's already a thread about this, but I couldn't find one. I wanted to ask for some advice on motivation here.
This past year, between internships and classes, I had absolutely no time, and magic completely fell by the wayside. Which is understandable, since it's just a hobby, and you have to prioritize what's truly important. But now I feel a general lack of motivation. It's like I don't know what new tricks to learn; I feel stuck, and the tricks I already know feel really basic (I know that's probably just me because I already know how they work, but it feels like I'm lacking confidence when performing them, worried I'll get busted or something).
I don't know if anyone else has gone through this and could offer some advice, but I'd really appreciate it.
P.S.: Sorry for the long post. 😅

And it's totally fine that you've lost your drive for a while. I'm sure you'll find a way to get back into it, no matter how long it takes.
For me, the passion often comes back when I watch a magic show. An idea will pop into my head, and I just have to try it out. Another thing that's helped me sometimes is when someone asks me to do some magic, doing something simple, like a card revelation using a Force, for example. Seeing their reactions and feeling that adrenaline rush totally reconnects me to magic. I don't know if you'll understand the feeling I'm describing, but that's just me, haha.
Best,
I totally get what you're saying. I'm actually heading out on vacation this week, and there's a kid there who loves for me to do magic for him. I figure that'll be good practice since I brought some stuff along. I'll definitely keep the show idea in mind too; I'll see if I can catch one. Thanks so much! 🙏🏻
The key is doing effects you truly love. In my case, most of the effects I see don't really interest me, but there are a few that are love at first sight, so to speak. Currently, I only have 7 in my repertoire, but I never get tired of performing them.
That's the key: find magic effects you truly love. Explore branches of magic that genuinely spark your passion. And often, another crucial component for staying motivated is to just keep practicing, practicing, and practicing what you've already learned.
