To kick things off, here are some references I recommend:
Bruno Copin - Friend Vol 1 and 2
Damien Savina - Invisible
Mariano Goñi - Defiance
Michael Ammar - Easy to Master Thread Miracles Vol 1, 2 and 3
Sean Fields - Kinetica
Steve Fearson - Thread Bullet System
These are just the first ones I have handy (there are more), but with this material, you'll be set for life.
First and foremost (especially if you've never used it before), practice handling it and getting comfortable with it before you even try to perform any effects.
A spool of brown thread, or even just some dental floss, is perfect for practice.
One of the simplest effects I can think of, for example, is animating a borrowed ring on your palm, making it jump right onto your finger.
(*I'm pretty swamped right now, but I'll try to put together a tutorial for this effect.
Though if someone else beats me to it or shares other ideas, that would help too!* 😀)
