Things You DIDN'T Know About: Dai Vernon
We all want to know more about our favorite magicians, right?
In this first edition of Things You DIDN'T Know About, we bring you The Professor (also known as Dai Vernon).
This Canadian magician's birth name was: David Frederick Wingfield Verner. Even though he studied mechanical engineering, we remember him for his contributions to modern magic.
He was the first person to popularize the book The Expert at the Card Table, which was the first magic book he ever read. Not only that, but he was incredibly knowledgeable about it and applied much of its theory when performing the material.
As for his personal work, there are many things we all owe to Dai Vernon. To name a few, we have Triumph and Twisting the Aces.
BUT... The reason many know him is because he was known for being the ONLY magician to fool Houdini.
Did you know Houdini challenged EVERY magician in the world to fool him? He claimed he could figure out any trick he saw a maximum of three times. That's how it was his entire life, until he faced Dai Vernon and his variation of The Ambitious Card. Houdini was dumbfounded; he couldn't figure out what was happening even though the effect was performed for him nearly SEVEN times.
What about you? Do you know any fun facts about Dai Vernon?
Honestly,
-Monet.
