Magic Case - Budget-Friendly Alternatives for Your Gear

Instead of buying any magic case (marketed as such), check out travel electronics organizers.

If you grab them on Amazon, they'll run you about $10 and up.

On AliExpress, they're about $1.50, *if* they actually show up 😅 (customs, you know how it is).

To be safe, I snagged the last one from Amazon 😁

Full disclosure, as an electronics and IT guy, I was already using these for cables, hard drives, and all sorts of tech gear. But they're absolutely perfect for carrying a decent repertoire and being ready for anything.

All the best and happy conjuring!!!

What a great idea!

I'd never thought of that. I used to just cram everything into a toiletry bag as best I could, but with a cable organizer case, the cool thing is you've got compartments all over to keep your different effects separate and prevent them from shifting around too much.

That's a really clever alternative!

Thanks so much for sharing the idea, and good magic!

Huh, I'd never thought of that! 😅 I usually carry my gear in a messenger bag, which aligns a bit more with my regular and magic persona, but it's true, everything does stay a bit more organized that way 😅

Pros: You can store and organize your stuff really well.

Cons: I really only see one, and that's certain vulnerable props that a spectator might accidentally glimpse when you're pulling them out, like a Thumb Tip.

I actually have a purpose-built case, specifically designed for this, that I picked up at a magic shop. It has adjustable compartments and pockets for discreetly stashing certain little things, if you know what I mean, haha. But hey, if you can't get your hands on a specialized close-up case like this, and you're not carrying anything that absolutely cannot be seen, then it's totally fine.

Yeah, it's definitely not something you'd open in front of an audience 😊, especially if you're carrying anything too revealing 😅, it's just an option for carrying things more conveniently.

To give you an example, let me tell you what I do.

As a general rule, I ALWAYS carry this with me in my pockets:

  • At least two thumb tips (and several silk handkerchiefs).
  • Plenty of foam balls.
  • Lots of Loops.
  • A fire wallet (and flash bills).
  • A split coin.
  • A nail writer, blank cards, and blank envelopes.
  • Several magnetic rings (sometimes I'll have one on already).
  • And, usually 2 decks + 2 pre-loaded decks.
  • Plus some organized envelopes with different types of gaff cards, ready to grab at any moment.

😅

That's just a normal day – heading to the supermarket, visiting my mom, going to work or out of town (also for work 😅), and I don't necessarily have to do magic... it's always 'just in case.' But whether I perform or not, it's become a habit to leave the house with at least that much on me as a minimum.

And yes, my pants always have LOTS of pockets 😂 😂 😂

@juanmartinezballeste:

I have a purpose-built case, specifically designed for magic, that I bought at a magic shop. Besides compartments that can be expanded and shrunk, it also has pockets for hiding little odds and ends, hehe.

Obviously, I get that a case made specifically for magic is going to be way better 😊.

But hey, the point was to offer affordable alternatives, especially for those just starting out.

Though now I'm really interested in hearing about that case! 😋 😁 🤫

Tip: Magician's cases are more effective in black, precisely because of the secret pockets.
