Modifying clothing

Hey everyone,

I'd love to know what options there are for using clothing as a magic prop or tool. I'm thinking about everything from performing a deck switch, to concealing a gimmick without a trace, or even having a magnetized coin on a shirt tag, for example. I imagine long sleeves could be a big help, and I know about the classic "ace up the sleeve" saying. But if anyone has any interesting ideas that could help me out, I'd really love to learn more about this.

Cheers and happy weekend!!!!!

Sort:

🧥 Long Sleeves & Hidden Pockets

  • Deck Switches: Internal pockets in the sleeve or under the armpit allow for natural loading or unloading of full decks.
  • Advanced Sleeving: Using sleeving not just for coins or balls, but also with gimmicks like magnets, clips, or gaffed card packets.

👕 Magnets in Labels or Seams

  • A magnetized coin can "magically" stick to a specific point on the body (like the collar tag or the hem of your shirt).
  • Combined with a magnet ring or a shim shell, it allows for incredibly clean vanishes or invisible changes.

🧥 False Pockets and Double Bottoms

  • Pockets with false bottoms or access from inside the jacket are great for invisible switches (decks, envelopes, gimmicks).
  • Ideal for effects involving predictions, changes, or productions of signed objects.

🧤 Magic Gloves and Mitts

  • In kids' magic or clown acts, you can incorporate gimmicked gloves with hidden compartments or quick color changes.
  • They're also useful for hiding gimmicks like sponge balls, threads, or elastic loops.

🧶 Skirts, Scarves, or Handkerchiefs

  • A double-layered scarf allows for invisible loads or steals.
  • Skirts (for theatrical or themed shows) can include hidden side pockets, similar to classic quick changes.

👞 Shoes and Ankles

  • Spaces under the pants for holding small objects with elastic bands (for example, a signed coin to "travel" mysteriously).
  • Even silent release devices from the shoe for effects like coins falling "out of nowhere".

🧢 Hats and Caps

  • False bottoms or magnetic compartments.
  • Gimmicks that allow for instant changes (e.g., a red ball for a white ball when placed inside).

All the best!!
