Coin Recommendations for Magic
Hey everyone! I've been thinking about getting some coins for magic. The ones I use now are these:
Do you recommend I get some Morgan dollar coins, or what kind of coins do you all use?

Hey Dario,
Those coins are from Mexico. Are you Mexican?
5-peso coins are fine, but they're too big for me. Still, you should do what you like and use whatever coins you prefer. And while most magicians use dollar and half-dollar coins—due to their size, tradition, and the availability of gimmmicks like shells—ultimately, it comes down to personal preference.
Congrats and good luck!
For me, some great coins for magic, and what I'm using for coin magic right now, are these Chinese bitcoin coins from AliExpress.
At around $0.87 each, they're made of iron (which means they're perfect for use with a PK ring), and they're the exact same size as any dollar coin.
This whole "trendy" thing (it's not new, it's always been this way) with using Morgan or Kennedy dollars and half-dollars really drives me crazy (and obviously, I own them).
Yes, it's true, American dollars have a ton of gimmicked coins that can be used with them (shells, flippers, bite coins, etc...).
And yes, it's also true that the gimmicks are a bit cheaper than gimmicks for Euro coins.
But, regardless of whether I can or can't buy a dollar or half-dollar coin at a magic shop (I usually get mine from coin collecting shops, and they cost face value, as they should, obviously 🤷♂️), I don't think that expense is necessary at all, especially when you're just starting out.
That's why my recommendation, for both beginners and those who've been at it for a while, is to buy these kinds of coins—they're super cheap and incredibly useful—because you don't need gimmicked coins to do coin magic, or, from my perspective, you should first learn to do magic with regular coins and then, once you've mastered those, move on to gimmicks.
All the best and happy magic!!!
You can use any coin you're comfortable palming. Lots of tricks don't require a shell... For example, I often perform 3- and 4-Coin Across with borrowed coins.
Now I also have dollar and half-dollar coins for my shell work.
Hey everyone, I recommend Kennedy half-dollars.
Yes, I'm Mexican. Thank you so much for your help! I think I'm going to order a Morgan Dollar 😄😄😄
