Magic Show

Hey everyone! I'm putting on a magic show for my uncle's 50th birthday at a venue. What do you recommend I do? I'm planning to open with the Siempre Seis.

Thanks a lot!

If it's in a salon, it'll be close-up or parlor magic, right? I don't know your skill level, so I'll suggest some really simple ones that let you focus on the patter.

It's a "one trick deck," but it has never, ever failed me. Richard Sanders's "Any Card" deck is a killer. I remember performing it for a very serious architect who claimed magic was just for kids, and he almost cried.

I'm not a huge fan of Chris Turchi's "Envylope", but I have to admit, the few times I've performed it, the reactions have been mind-blowing. The great thing is, it's perfect for parlor.

For Andy Nyman's "Big Reaction", you can do it like him with regular cards, though I use a Phoenix double decker. I do the same thing, just handling it differently, in half the space.

And, of course, the Professor's Nightmare, which is very versatile, always plays well, is impactful, and you can perform it descriptively or tell a story about your uncle. We talk about it here:

With these well-managed and interspersed with coin magic, Linking Rings, etc., you've got enough for a solid show. I hope this helps.

Now that I think about it, if you're going to start with the siempre 6, you could finish with the nunca 6 that another member mentioned, and that would really bring it all together:

Great start with the "always 6".

I like it, but do you know any really strong ones?

It's mostly adults.

Thank you very much, but I'd prefer them to be free.

Hey there. I've included commercial examples so you can watch the trailers and see what the effects are all about.

Except for "Envylope 2.0," you can do the rest with cards, markers, and a close-up mat. Honestly, I haven't bought any of them myself. To make "Envylope 2.0," you'll need scissors, single-sided tape, and glue; it might be a bit more complicated to put together. And for Professor's Nightmare, you just need rope. One of the guys from the Telegram group even made it for us using clothesline.

You weren't very specific about your skill level or what you're looking for, which is why I asked upfront and showed you some really impressive yet simple-to-perform effects. Maybe if you elaborate a bit more, we can help you better.

All the best.

Hey everyone! I'm a beginner and I'm twelve years old.

I'm looking for easy but impactful tricks.

Hey Juan, in that case, don't overthink it:

  • Open with 'Nunca 6'.
  • For the middle, use 'The Professor's Nightmare.' You can use that opportunity to weave in a story about your uncle.
  • Close with 'Siempre 6'.

You'll have a perfect 10-15 minute act; no one will get bored, and everything will go smoothly. Don't overcomplicate it; stick to what's simple.

Thanks so much, but I'll also be including Fred Kaps' Homing Card.
