Static marker

Hey everyone! I just got my 'Te Falta Calle' kit. Does anyone know what to do with the marker? I can't find any tutorials or anything for it. I thought, 'Okay, at least I can use it to sign cards,' but it's totally dry and won't write... If anyone can help me out, I'm really not sure what to do with the kit, I can't access any product tutorials, and I don't know how to use anything. Thanks so much for any help! Help!

Hey everyone!

Let me explain why:

When the Static Marker is manufactured, 95% of the ink is removed to make space for the gimmick (otherwise the magic trick would be impossible to do).

This means the ink dries out quickly, so it usually DOESN'T write.

I usually carry another normal marker for signing and, more importantly, for later doing the switch and handing it out for examination.

A marker is something you often take out and put back in your pocket without much thought, making it easy to switch and adding to the impossibility of the trick, since the spectator himself will use the normal marker, and when you do the switch, they'll think it's the same one.

Alternatively, you can open the Static Marker before a performance and add a bit of alcohol or refill the ink, replacing it with ink from a normal Sharpie (you'll need to cut it to the correct size).

The tutorial on how to repair it explains how to open it:

Best! 😋

Hey everyone, according to the Street Magic course, it should be usable for signing. Mine came dry too, so I'm going to write them to see what's up.

Some people say it's not meant for writing, but the video explicitly shows that it can be used that way. I opened it up and put ink in it for writing. Now it feels much more real, and I'm more comfortable using it. I think it should be that way. Then, I can casually pretend to write with it, and it just feels so much more authentic.

You'll need to apply force with back-and-forth movements, being careful not to tear it, as it's quite stiff. I keep the cap on to prevent breaking the tip. Once it's open, you can put a bit of alcohol in the cartridge, and it'll be good as new.

If the elastic thread breaks, you'll have to disassemble it and use long tweezers to pull out the plastic tube to replace the elastic thread. It often breaks from frequent use. Good luck!

My marker isn't writing either; it came dry as well.

You only bought the kit, not the course, right?

both things. Alright, the product tutorials are available today. When I first got it, I couldn't access them. Thanks a lot. I'm having a really hard time opening the marker to see if I can refill it.

This Sharpie isn't for writing; it's a gimmicked marker designed to deliver electric shocks. For instance, when you're performing mentalism, you might touch someone, and they'll feel a jolt. It can also be used to make objects appear to move. Ultimately, it's a gimmicked marker, not intended for actual writing.

You can't put ink in it because it's a gimmicked marker; it's not for signing.

I can't get it open the way Julio says. What I do is grab some small pliers, wrap a cloth around it, and just pull. I've really messed up one of them doing that, but since the inside barely shows, I don't really mind. I've actually had to change the thread more than 7 times.

Hey @jriberamagia, you also mentioned in the video that you'd talk about where to buy more elastic thread. I've already checked out several sewing stores in my city, and none of them have quite what I need. Do you have any specific recommendations? While I'm at it, I'd like to have some for making flaps and other gimmicks. Thanks :D

I get it on Ali. Spools and loops.

Hello!

In the 'Rising Card' lesson, I mention the brand of transparent elastic thread I use:

Prym – ref. 977 770 – knitting elastic thread

Do I mention this in any other video where I might not have listed it?

You can find it on Amazon Spain using the reference and brand @jriberamagia provided (prym 977770).

I originally bought it on eBay Spain, but I can't seem to find it anymore, and now only UK stores are showing up.

Just be super careful with it; when I was working with it, the body cracked, which was a real headache. But fixing it was as simple as just making my own. I'm not sure if I should be saying this, but once you see how it works, replicating it is pretty straightforward – it's definitely not rocket science. As for the ink, you just trim the cartridge and pop it in. It'll probably wear out faster that way, but it's more than enough for signatures. I don't think you'll be signing card after card in a single session anyway, because, as Julio rightly says, the static is really just a tool to enhance the effect. And for the thread, I use invisible elastic thread designed for knitting; I pick it up at craft stores.
