Effect with a Double-Backed Card

Hey everyone, I just got a new deck and it came with a double-backed card. Does anyone know any effects for this card?

Thanks :)

To infinity and beyond (and that's not even getting into using them for gimmicks)

But since the point is to tell you, at least, one use.

  • The MOST BASIC effect I can think of (and honestly, you don't even need a double-backer to do it, any normal card would work), is for performing the Ambitious Card with 1, 2, or 3 double-backed cards (or if you're a show-off, 4, 5, 6...).

You simply place the double-backer on top, have the spectator choose any card they want (except the card on top 😅), and place the chosen card on top of the double-backer(s) (which you already have a pinky break under).

When you turn over the spectator's chosen card, you actually turn over the double-backer(s). Remove the double-backer, insert it into the middle of the deck, perform a pass, a snap, or a magic word... and voilà... the chosen card is back on top.

Basic, simple, and very effective.

Cheers!!

In this video, Julio shares a super simple yet incredibly deceptive effect... you'll need a double-backer and to gimmick up a double-facer!

I also came across this PDF online.

If you try any of them out, don't forget to share your experience or if you come up with any of your own ideas!

Hello,

I saw Juan Tamariz perform this trick, oh, about 25 years ago.

You'll need:

  • 9 red-backed cards + 1 double-backer. You take 10 cards from a red deck, with the double-backer on top.
  • 9 blue-backed cards + 1 double-backer. You take 10 cards from a blue deck, with the double-backer on top.

When you count them, you reverse the order, so the double-backer ends up on the bottom.

Now you ask the spectator to draw two columns in a notebook: an 'A' (for blue) on the left and an 'R' (for red) on the right. Tell them to write '10' under the 'A' and '10' under the 'R' (saying there are 10 red cards and 10 blue cards).

Put the 10 blue cards and the 10 red cards together, bottom-to-bottom. Be careful with your angles; you don't want them to see that the last card of each ten is a double-backer.

Once they're together, you say, 'We have 10 red cards and 10 blue cards.' Then say, 'Let's take away one red card.' So, they write '9' under the 'R' in the notebook, and '10' under the 'A'. When you recount the red cards, it'll seem like there are 10 red cards and 9 blue. You tell them they made a mistake and that there are 10 red and 9 blue. Say, 'Get it right! You must be nervous; we can't start the trick if you can't count.' You can do this about 3 times, sometimes removing red cards, other times blue, and each time they count, the numbers won't match.

The last time, you remove the double-backers, and the counts still won't match. That's the end of the trick, and you say, 'I can't do this for you guys; you just can't count!'

I hope that makes sense!

All the best,
