Effects Examinable by the Audience?
Hey there!
I'm looking for effects, with or without gimmicks, that aren't card magic, coin magic, sponge balls, or loops. I'd like them to use objects that can be fully examined by the audience afterwards. And, of course, they should create the biggest possible impact.
If they're available at Magia & Cardistry, even better ;)
Thanks!

Hey there!
You'll find a ton of these types of effects among the classics. Here are a few I can think of:
The Cups and Balls is one; in fact, if you don't use a chop cup, you can even do it with regular cups and balls, even using napkins.
Rope routines. Tabary's routine, for instance.
Broken and Restored Thread, and they can even examine the spool and thread afterward.
Bill Change.
Slydini's Silks. (or his cigarette routine)
Ross Bertram's Multiplying Balls routine (I believe it's the first effect in Stars of Magic; Giancarlo Scalia has released a fantastic version where he also explores many other incredibly insightful things about gesture and movement... Huge fan of Giancarlo's!).
Even though you mentioned you're not into coin magic, routines like Vizcarra's Sun & Moon or Matas' Hand-to-Hand Coins show the props clean both before and after, leaving you totally clear.
On a side note, regarding the Coin Through Glass, if you get a chance, study Joaquín Navajas' version. It's completely impromptu, uses any glass, and is absolutely killer.
The Ambitious Card. Just make sure no one's watching from behind, because they'll definitely see you get your break. But honestly, if your handling is solid, it's not as big a deal.
Search 'magia sin filtro' on YouTube for the tutorial, or check out the 'How to Be a Magician' course.
Hey there!

Ummmm, I can think of so many, so many, so many, so many, so many....(loop error)
😊
Seriously, if you're talking about tricks for sale, there are just too many, even though they're often based on the same core ideas.
Let me explain: generally, the simplest method (for most tricks of this type) is to switch out the object (whatever that object may be). There's the gimmicked object (which the spectator never touches) and the real object. And this all depends on the magician's handling and sleight of hand.
There can also be a gimmicked object, for example two cards glued together, that the spectator doesn't realize is gimmicked until the end of the trick, when it's handed to them for examination.
Tricks without gimmicks using objects that can then be examined by the audience? Well, any object you can make vanish and reappear from your hands.
Your question is pretty general. If you can be a bit more specific, I could tell you about more concrete tricks (with or without gimmicks).
Hey @Zeta!
Thanks for your reply 😊
I'm mainly looking for effects you can do without those "switches" you mentioned, and if they use gimmicks, that can be handed out for examination without the spectator figuring out the trick.
Let me give you a couple of examples from articles on Magia & Cardistry to explain myself better.
The Ghost Cigarette, for example, can be freely examined because the ordinary cigarette can't be retrieved without a hidden element that's never shown to the audience. Also, the self-tying shoelaces, since the main prop—the shoe with the laces already tied—can be handed out for examination without a problem, and the audience has no idea about the other elements involved.
Houdini's Handcuffs or Coin Through Glass would also fit what I'm looking for, as they can be handed out to the audience for examination, and it's very tough for them to figure out how they work—even if there's an unusual chance they might (the possibility, however remote, is still there).
The Magic Puzzle or The Super Exploding Dice might also fit what I'm looking for, due to the minimal manipulation they require, though it's not exactly what I'm aiming for.
On the other hand, WOW or The Vanishing Deck, for example, wouldn't be what I'm looking for, because the props used for those effects can't be examined without the spectator easily figuring out how the trick works.
I hope these examples clarify what I'm looking for, and if you know any effects that fit the bill, I'd really appreciate it if you could share their names with me 😊
Thanks, and all the best!
I think the most useful and examinable option, one that offers countless possibilities, would be the magic light bulb, since you can hand it out without any issues. Another tool is the stripper deck, which is very, very undetectable. One more thing that comes to mind, which might not be exactly what you're looking for, but with loops, if the objects that move are borrowed from the audience, it really helps you finish clean.
Hello Lorenzo,
On Magia & Cardistry, you'll find plenty of those.
They also offer courses on everyday object magic, and the upcoming Top Secret course might be right up your alley.
The course with Julio Montoro is also in that vein, focusing on magic with various materials, but it won't be available until mid-next year.
Best of luck!
@mario_garcia_diaz Thanks for your response!
Yeah, I've bought from Magia & Cardistry several times, and to me, they're a top-notch shop – super professional with excellent items. However, they don't always specify if the components of an effect are examinable by the audience after the trick is done, which is why I asked.
Regarding Julio Montoro's course, I didn't know it was going to reopen, and I think that's fantastic! His mind for designing effects with different elements always blew me away. Thanks for the heads-up; I'll keep an eye out for it. As for his other courses, I've already bought two of Julio's, and they're excellent.
All the best!
