Hey there @Jabilobil.
That "trick"—and I'm putting "trick" in quotes because what we see in the video isn't really a full trick at all—I find it incomplete, as it's an effect that's part of a trick that's at least (meaning, a minimum of) 25 years old.
I can't even remember the name of the trick or its creator, but the video where I first saw it about 11 years ago had terrible 80s quality.
It was one of the first gimmicks I ever made, as it's super simple to construct.
And I think Julio might have shown it or talked about it in some of his recent open YouTube classes.
As I've always said, a trick or effect is only good if it's performed well...
To just show an effect, on its own, and as a standalone YouTube video, well, that's fine.
If the intention is simply to demonstrate the effect, perfect.
If the intention is to start practicing uploading videos to YouTube to build confidence, that's also perfect.
But, and I don't want to get nitpicky...
PERSONAL OPINION
(Watching videos like this, I can't help but say it.
More than a criticism, it's about how the effect is performed, just like that, because it loses the whole story of why it's happening; in this case, there's no context at all).
Unless you're only performing magic on social media and strictly for a camera...
that kind of effect, just like that, won't work in real-world situations.
The moment someone is watching you live, they're going to say, "Let me see that card—you can tell from a mile away, by how you handle it and the lack of a story you tell, that it's gimmicked."
The advice I give regarding that video is this:
You should always embellish your magic effects with good stories,
especially those effects where you use potentially detectable gimmicks.
Cheers and good magic!!!
Just a thought:
I just did some of my "homework" 😂, and I saw that the trick or effect Julio Rivera teaches and Julio Montoro explains ----> https://www.youtube.com/live/bAQ-UH87tVU?si=pjwL2LBiXxn3VVHe&t=2778, Slow Vanish, is another way to do the one I know and learned years ago. It's based on a different concept, even though the effect is exactly the same.
In this case, the one I learned, instead of a line drawn with permanent marker, was a central line created by erasing part of the card with an eraser,
and then it traveled to the signed card.
Perhaps a bit more convoluted of an idea.
The same gimmick could be used (and can still be used) perfectly for a permanent marker line to vanish as well.
It's interesting.
I'll try to find the information about the trick and if I do, I'll share it.
Good magic to all!!!
