Free Cardistry Course for Magicians with Julio Ribera

Free Cardistry Course for Magicians with Julio Ribera I'd define cardistry as the art of creating a circus act right in your hands: the cards become jugglers, acrobats, contortionists, tightrope walkers, human cannons, trapeze artists, and of course, magicians. Before it was known by that name, card magic featured several flourishes like the Charlier Cut, the one-handed fan, the Hot Shot, the Spring, the Scissor Cut, and so on. In 1992, card magician Chris Kenner published the book Totally Out of Control which featured an explanation of a two-handed cut called "The Five Faces of Sybil," and that has since become one of cardistry's fundamental moves. Then in 1997, magician Brian Tudor released Show Off , a video tutorial that exclusively taught flourishes and not magic tricks. Starting in 2001, we saw the emergence of Xtreme Card Manipulation (created by De'vo vom Schattenreich and Jerry Cestkowski) and the Dan & Dave twins, who took cardistry to another level with more visual and musical displays. And that wraps up our history lesson on cardistry! 🤣🤣🤣 If you're a magician, why should you consider learning cardistry? It forces you to develop extreme card control, which in turn makes you learn card magic techniques infinitely faster. It's a highly visual way to impress an audience, and you can use it as an introduction to a magic trick or as a grand finale. They say practicing cardistry is very relaxing, so it could come in handy before a show (or before an exam...). It's a really attractive way to express yourself and helps you stand out from the crowd. Ready to dive into the exciting world of cardistry? DIY Cardistry Trainers - Training Tools

Hey everyone! (Yeah, when I write online, I use '@' to include everyone, regardless of gender. Sorry, grammar police, but I'm doing my own thing here.) Let's get to it: I just wanted to share my DIY trainers, which I find super useful for practicing cardistry and getting your hands and fingers in shape. What's cool about these is that they're super cheap to get started with and 100% functional. The first set is made from a piece of craft board stained on one side (you know, the kind you find at a dollar store). They're heavier and perfect for building speed and practicing all sorts of cardistry moves. The second set is made from foam board (also from the dollar store). They're lighter and perfect for the initial stages, focusing on flexibility, fluidity, and handling. There's no rocket science involved in making them, so I'm just showing you the photos (as inspiration) so you can make your own. For me, what I love most is being able to customize them however you want, making them truly unique and personal. These are just two ideas for trainers (I've got plenty of other ideas), but these seem like the best ones to start with. Cheers, and I hope someone finds these useful.

Fanning Powder, or Simply Zinc Stearate

I wanted to tell you about this wonderful powdered substance, zinc stearate (known commercially as Fanning Powder ). It has many uses (even in daily life) and is great for cards, especially for: · Fanning: If you treat a deck with a fine layer of zinc stearate , the cards will glide much more easily. The stearate is transparent and is used by magicians and casinos alike. · Cleaning Decks: You can apply zinc stearate to a cotton pad to clean cards that might be dirty or marked by hand grease or heavy use. Because of its fine texture, it fills in any minor scratches the cards might have. This fills them in, making the deck handle smoother and faster. Seriously, it's a fantastic substance. Not to mention, if you're like me and your fingertips tend to get sweaty (especially in the summer), you'll appreciate a thin layer of this powder on your hands. It's, no pun intended, magical. On a personal note, I couldn't get a good Spring flourish (smooth and consistent, from a distance) until I started using this powder. Anyway, like I said, this product is cheap if you buy it outside the magic industry 🙄 🤫 😅 (I checked Julio's shop and didn't see it, which is why I decided to share this 'open secret'). -It's easy to find at any online chemical supplier. -It's not a dangerous or toxic substance, unless you ingest a large amount, so... DON'T EAT IT (or lick your fingers after handling it). -And the best part? The more you buy, the cheaper it gets. In my case, a 2kg tub was 13 Euros plus 7 for shipping (20 Euros total), which works out to 1 Euro per 100g. That's a steal compared to Fanning Powder , and I guarantee you'll have enough for a lifetime (or maybe not 😂). Here's the link to where I bought mine (for those outside of Spain, it might be better to buy it from a local store to avoid higher international shipping costs; I don't know, you'll have to check). ( I've seen it on Amazon, but it's more expensive there ) This is the 2kg size. Obviously, a container that big isn't practical to handle every time you want to use it. In my case, I used two empty baking soda containers and a smaller vitamin supplement bottle. I washed and dried them beforehand, labeled them (my personal touch), and filled them with the powder. I've got powder for days ... Cheers everyone, good magic and great flourishes!!!

Deck Stacking Routine in 10 Seconds

Hey everyone! I've got a question. I'm looking for the name of a routine where you cut the deck into several piles in 10 seconds. And when you flip them over, each pile reveals its sequential number. Does that make sense? The first pile reveals a '1'. The second, a '2'. The third... And before that, a spectator selects three cards which turn out to be the Aces or Kings. (I'm not sure if that's part of the main routine or an add-on.) Hope to hear back, folks. All the best, and thanks in advance!

Hey everyone! I recently asked about the Pandora move, and they told me to check out Ekaterina's tutorial, but my English is terrible. If someone who knows how to do this move could record themselves doing it in a video, I'd really appreciate it.

When to Perform Cardistry

I've started picking up some moves like the Crom, etc. And I've run into a problem: I'm not sure how to incorporate what I've learned into a trick, or even how to naturally introduce these moves before performing them for someone. That's why I'm reaching out to you for some advice. Thanks a lot in advance 😃.

Card Throwing

Hey everyone! I caught the F1 movie with Brad Pitt the other day (loved it, highly recommend!) and he throws cards in a way I hadn't seen before. It's like he shoots them out with pressure, without any wrist flick or anything. He just holds it with one hand, like he squeezes it, and the card shoots right out. If anyone knows how to learn this, please share a link!

Hi!

Does anyone know how to do that move I think Julio does, where you make a fan, toss it in the air, it spins, and you catch it?

Thanks!! 🃏

Good afternoon, I was wondering if there's a technique for throwing cards and getting them to stick. I already know how to throw them with power, but they lose a lot of force and speed after traveling several feet.

Cheers! 🃏

Hey everyone,

First off, I know there's a post about making your own homemade trainers for practicing some packet cardistry, but I was looking to buy something more professional.

So I've been searching for a while for cardistry trainers to see which ones were the best option, and I noticed that plastic ones tend to break down and wear out.

I remembered the wooden ones Julio put out back in the day. The "Woodistry" ones, but they're no longer listed in his shop.

I also found the Dan and Dave trainers called Brass Trainers, but I couldn't find them for sale anywhere.

Finally, I found an Instagram account for a guy who makes trainers out of "resin." His handle is @p1customs. I don't know exactly what his process is or if it's possible to easily make them at home, but I do know the results he gets are extraordinary. If you have the money, I really recommend them; they're worth it. You can ask him to customize them to your liking, and they feel great to the touch.

Do you guys usually use trainers? Which ones have given you the best results?

P.S.: I found the Squids made by @pocketprk - @chasedunk, and when I checked out @pocketprk's IG account... I read comments implying it was all a scam and they ran off with buyers' money. Does anyone know anything about this?
