Thumb Tip Potential

Every magician says the TT (Thumb Tip) has a lot of potential, but I can't find many other tricks to do besides handkerchief vanishes, salt vanishes, and extinguishing a cigarette on your clothes. Does anyone have a book or know of any videos with Thumb Tip tutorials?

Hey @humbert.

Even though I've said I "don't give away any of my secrets,"

I'm going to tell you about one thing, just to give you a reference.

This trick is done with a Thumb Tip (and one other little thing 😅 that I obviously won't reveal).

You'll be able to go to any fruit stand and extract whatever you want (a bill, a card, a check, or a note) from any fruit you choose.

All the best!!!

Hey @humbert,

First off, I always recommend this:

Darwin's Encyclopedia of Thumb Tip Magic (3 DVDs)

Keep in mind, the TT is like a "secret compartment" – it doesn't have a ton of space, but enough to hide even other gimmicks, which, when combined..., can work wonders.

Honestly, when it comes to the TT, I keep what I know about it very close to the vest, and it's one of the few things in magic where I'm really protective of the secrets, precisely because not much is discussed about everything you can do with it.

All the best,

(and I'm sorry I couldn't be of much more help)

There are several books on the Thumb Tip:

  • The Thumb Tip, by Gran Henry
  • 50 Tricks with a Thumb Tip, by Milbourne Christopher.

I've seen the second one available for direct download somewhere. It's a book from 1948, so I'm not sure if it's already in the public domain and can be downloaded directly.

Recommended books (Spanish only)

Pepe Carroll's Poosha d'Poosha Routine

And if you're into the thumb tip, you should definitely check out all the material on pulls, top-its, etc...

My recommendation is to watch a lot of live magic or check out YouTube for inspiration on its potential.

I just came from a kids' magic show today, and with his Patter, the magician put on a really fun routine doing some classic effects.

In other words, it's not just about finding more tricks, but also coming up with new presentations.

Cheers,
