Card Reversal with 6 Cards

Hey everyone, how's it going?

I'm trying to figure out an effect where I show six cards, turn them all face down, and then with a move, one of them visibly reverses itself face up.

I know methods for four cards, but I'm not sure how to pull it off with six.

Thanks!

Hi Isabel,

Well, if you use an Elmsley count to show four cards when you actually have five, you can apply that same principle to any number of cards you want.

Sometimes I use a Hamman count where I appear to count seven cards but actually have nine in hand. Only five of those are ever shown; the other four cards are never seen.

Check out some tutorials on these two false counts; they'll definitely open up some options for your routines.

Best,

If I understand correctly, you want to show 6 face-up cards, flip them over, show them face-down again, do a magic pass, and then show that now there are 5 face-down and one face-up, right?

One option is a half Pass followed by a Biddle Grip that lets you ditch the bottom card, but I'm not sure how well covered that would be in the context of the trick.

Another option is a double-facer with a Biddle count to show all backs before the pass.

Another option: use 7 cards (one face up) and handle a double. You can have it face up in the second position, with a break underneath. Then, do a double push-off, pinch the double with your thumb and the base of your index finger, and execute a spread showing all the faces. When you flip the reversed card, it's the second to last. You can go through the cards (reversing them) and at the end do a push-off of two (hiding the face-up card) and leave the last one on top. Now, after the pass, the reversed card will be third from the top (you can handle the last card as a double now, which might be better than the first one, so the reversed card ends up more in the middle).

You could also look into something like the turnover Palm in Amilkar - Gea's cull, but with so few cards and how complicated it is, I don't think it's worth the effort.

I hope one of these options helps you out.

Cheers!

Right, right…

I understand that.

But what about showing six cards, and one of them flips over when you do the Pass?

And the other five are still perfectly clean?

The problem is that the count always ends up being an odd number, and you want it to be an even number.

There's a solution for this, but it requires a bit more technique.
