My Neglected Social Media Accounts

Hey everyone, morning, noon, or night...

I've had two social media accounts that I set up quite a while ago, hoping to upload magic content, but the thing is, I have no idea what to post there.

Several friends (non-magicians) have already told me to upload something to get more exposure or so people can see my work, but I'm really stumped on what kind of content I can actually put out...

Hey @ChavaMagic.

I'm going to give you my personal opinion on this, but I'll be upfront, I'm not the best person to ask 🫢 😄

Social media, that double-edged sword.

It all depends on your goals, your interests.

To start, the questions would be, what level magician are you? and what kind of magician do you want to be?.

What level magician you are, to know what content you'll upload.

What kind of magician you want to be to know what to focus on.

If you're a beginner/novice, you won't be uploading videos about palms or a Top Change, but you can always show more basic tricks, like self-working or mathematical ones.

If you've been at it for a while, you should already have a repertoire of effects to show.

You can also be an amateur magician and just upload content of your tricks and things you're doing here and there. But upload it without any specific intention, just to share and nothing more.

I've been an amateur magician for a long time, and you'll NEVER see me upload a single trick on social media, but that's just me – my magic is seen live or not at all.

It's also true that I've never been interested in being a well-known magician, not even semi-professional (meaning, getting paid to do magic), so it makes sense that I don't use social media to showcase my magic.

(though it's true that nowadays, if you do magic on the street or in a bar, it's very easy for people to record you WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT 🙄, so it's possible someone has me on their phone 😅)

But if your intention is to get yourself out there...

you simply need to improve every day as a magician, so you'll have a repertoire to show in the videos you upload.

And it always helps to have someone else record you so you don't have to worry about that part and can just focus on your magic.

All the best and keep the magic going!!!

It sounds like you're at that challenging stage of getting started... which, funnily enough, is only solved by actually starting, lol.

I'm going to share two pieces of advice with you; the first is pretty standard, but the second one is a bit weird, and you'll see why in a second.

First up: pick the best visual magic effect you've got down and upload it today. Make it easy on yourself; choose something you've already nailed.

The second: forget about your social media and don't upload anything... just let some time pass and focus on other things. Force yourself not to think about it. Trust this weird advice and see what happens.

All the best!

Hey there,

That's an interesting question, Salvador.

If you set up these social media accounts, I'd assume you'd know what kind of content you want to post there.

Anyway, at the M&C club and school, there's a ton of content you can explore, pick from, and use for your platform.

Take a look and choose whatever seems right for your social media concept.

Good luck and best regards!
