[Street Magic] Challenge 1 - Together, We'll Go Far

⚠️ This challenge is part of the Street Magic course; only complete it if you're a student.

Goals for this challenge:

Introduce yourself to your fellow magicians.

Tell us your goal for this course.

Example:

Hi, I'm Julio Ribera!

I'm a magician from Valencia, Spain. I'm 25 years old (and I turn another year older on February 27th) and I've been involved in magic for over a decade.

One of the things that inspired me most when I started was discovering David Blaine's TV specials where he performed street magic.

I'd watch the recordings over and over until I figured out the secret to his tricks.

Obviously, I don't recommend doing that because it takes a lot longer and you learn the techniques incorrectly (it took me a long time to correct them later 😂).

Since then, street magic and card magic have become my two biggest passions.

MY GOAL WITH THIS COURSE: I want to build a repertoire of magic tricks that allows me to always be ready to create moments of wonder anywhere, anytime, even if I don't have a deck of cards on me.

Now it's your turn!

Reply to this post with your introduction and course goal.

Hey everyone, I'm Ferran Clapés!!

I'm from Barcelona, I'm 20 years old, and I got into magic 5 years ago. I actually took a break because I lost my motivation and didn't have enough people to perform the tricks I was learning for. But I'm back now, and more motivated than ever! 💪t3:

MY GOAL WITH THIS COURSE: I want to overcome my shyness and be able to amaze total strangers.

Hi, I'm David from Granada, and I'm 17 years old. I got into magic about 5 or 6 years ago, but I've been dedicating more serious time to it for the past 3 years. I'm currently in my second year of a performing arts high school program. My goal with this course is to take my magic to the next level, for people to get to know it, and maybe even put on my own show someday!!

Hi, I'm Nicolás Díaz.

I'm from Barcelona, I'm 13 years old, and I officially got into magic 7 months ago. My interest was sparked after seeing Dynamo, David Blaine, and Penn and Teller. I'm super motivated by my progress in magic and cardistry.

MY GOAL WITH THIS COURSE: I want to bring a sense of wonder back to strangers and learn a lot of magic.

Hi, I'm Juan Mas. I'm 71 years old and started with "How to Be a Magician 2.0" seven months ago. I have a small routine that I've performed for family and friends. I'm very interested in "Street Magic" because I'm a member of several magic societies where we have meetings, so I'll have frequent opportunities. MY GOAL WITH THE COURSE: to amaze as many people as possible, and together, we'll go far.

Hey there, I'm Héctor Manuel.

I'm 18 years old and I'm from Malaga. I got into magic after someone did a trick for me on the street, and it really piqued my interest. I'd love to learn more about this world and, most importantly, have a great time.

My goal with this course is to help people have a good time and amaze my family and friends, as well as overcome my fear of public speaking.

Hi, I'm Mateo!

I'm a magician from Murcia, in southern Spain, and I've been doing magic since I was 10 (I'm 15 now). I took a break for a bit, but I decided to get back into it about two and a half years ago.

Whenever I want to watch magic on YouTube, I look up street magic videos because I love seeing people's reactions.

My goal with this course is to learn how to talk to people, step out of my comfort zone, and most importantly, make people happy by doing good magic!

Hi, my name is Manu.

I'm from Almería and I've been into magic for about 4 years now. I started with free content on YouTube, but I quickly realized that wasn't getting me anywhere, so I decided to learn magic at the Magia & Cardistry school. For the past two years, I've been doing walk-around magic in pubs and similar venues, as well as stage magic. I'd say I've managed to overcome my shyness with audiences over the last year, and I'm much more comfortable performing for strangers, mostly indoors – I rarely perform on the street.

My magic journey has always been a solo one, without anyone's help. And you know how it is – if you pick up bad habits in your technique, you have to correct them later. Still, it hasn't stopped me from performing my tricks and getting great reactions. I'd love to know if anyone from the "Street Magic" course is from Almería so I can meet them in person and we can team up to tackle the challenges ahead.

MY GOAL FOR THE COURSE: TO APPROACH STRANGERS ON THE STREET WITHOUT A MAGICAL PRETEXT AND GET BRUTAL REACTIONS WITH MAGIC.

Hi, I'm Jose, and I'm 58 years old. I've always been captivated by magic and the idea of entertaining people at family gatherings or with friends. To be honest, I have zero experience, but I love to learn, and I'm here hoping to make some progress with your help.

Hi there, my name is Eloi.

I'm a magician from Cassà de la Selva, Gerona. I'm 12 years old, and I've had this passion since I was four.

My journey began when I found out my brother got a magic kit as a gift one day, and sometime later, I learned one of the tricks from his kit. That's when I started performing magic for my family. They seemed really impressed. (Though I'm not sure if they were just pretending to be!) I wanted to dive deeper into magic, so I started watching a TV show with a magician who would teach a trick during the program. I learned, but I always felt like something was missing.

One day, while performing magic at school, a kid got jealous and told me, "I can do the same thing, or even better. I'll just Google it, and a list of tricks will pop right up."

I didn't get mad. In fact, I thanked him for giving me that information. I took his advice and searched for magic. And that's where I discovered Magia y cardistry. (in 2019)

I started with the free course at comoserunmago.com. Of course, by then, Julio Ribera was (and still is) my idol. I started getting interested in the 'Como ser un mago 2.0' course and kit. And my family gave it to me for my birthday.

Fast forward to today, and I know I really love Street Magic, even though I've never actually tried it. When the puzzles came out on Magia y Cardistry, I followed them every day until I learned about the new Street Magic kit. And I decided to buy it with my own money. I also have to mention that I'm in touch with my town's council to put on a magic show.

MY GOAL WITH THE COURSE: I want to dive deeper into the world of magic and expand my repertoire. And maybe get myself a little bit known.

(Sorry for the long message)

Hi, my name is Oliver.

I'm from Collado Villalba, Madrid. I'm 46 years old, and I've been learning magic since I was 14, which is when I started my training at the "Gran Escuela de Magia Ana Tamariz" for 6 months. When I was 20, I went back for another 6 months to further my studies. I'm not ruling out going back again, though I think with Julio Ribera's courses and several books I own (Kanban, Bobo, Gran escuela cartomáica (vols. I, II, III IV), and digital ones like Juan Tamariz's Nemónica), I'll have enough to last me a lifetime. I'm fascinated to have discovered Magia & Cardistry 2 years ago; Julio Ribera has really rounded out my education.

I've performed several shows in my hometown and hope to do so again sometime.

MY GOAL FOR THE COURSE: To keep learning and gather material to be able to perform street magic anytime, in addition to continuing with card magic, which is where I excel.

Hey everyone! I'm 52 Lovers, and I just joined the club. My name is a tribute to the great Pepe Carrol and his book 52 Amantes.

I've always loved magic, but I never took the plunge to learn until a couple of years ago. A neighbor of my brother's, a professional magician, came over to his place. While talking with him, he noticed how interested I was in magic and that I knew a few things. So he asked me the key question: "Do you do any tricks?" as he slid a deck of cards my way. I had to say no because even though I knew some of the secrets, I couldn't actually perform any effects. When I got home, his question kept echoing in my head: "Do you do any tricks?" So I thought, "Why not?" The very next day, I bought my first Bicycle deck and a close-up mat, and I started learning from scratch. Even though I have a few interesting effects down now, I usually don't perform them for anyone except my family and a close friend or two.

I'm 41, have two kids and a job, but whenever I can, I carve out some time to learn magic, especially card magic, which is my absolute favorite.

My goal: keep learning magic and conquer my fear of performing for people. I always worry they won't be interested or that I'll mess up. So I hope to change that. And if I don't manage to, at the very least, I'll pass on my love for magic to my kids so they have the opportunity I didn't have to learn from a young age.

P.S. Today's a big day because I'm going to see the legendary Juan Tamariz live for the very first time!

Cheers everyone!!!
