What are your favorite card control techniques?

Hey everyone, lately I've been thinking about which technique to use to control a card to the top of the deck, and I haven't found one that's easy, invisible, and practical. Besides the classic pass, what other controls do you know? Which ones would you recommend?

Thanks a ton, everyone, your help has really come in handy. I used to be such a beginner that my best "control" was putting the spectator's card on top, doing a hand shuffle to get it to the bottom, then another to bring it back to the top. But not anymore! I've taken a huge leap forward in improving my magic, all thanks to you guys.

Thanks so much!!

Hey there. A pretty simple one is the double cut. But the one I use most often is the short card. It's great for controlling a card to the bottom, almost invisibly. And if you need to control it to the top, a shuffle in the hands will bring that bottom card right up.

What I also like about this technique is that you can start by letting the spectator shuffle the deck because the gimmicked card is easily located by feel.

It's used just like a Key Card but without having to peek at the cards.

I learned about it from George G. Kaplan's book, "The Fine Art of Magic."

The downside is you can't use it with a borrowed deck.

Cheers!

Thanks so much for your reply! I think that short card control is a fantastic idea because it's so practical. I wasn't familiar with it, and I'll definitely be putting it to use.

Thanks!!

Hi Oier,

You can check out YouTube; Julio has some videos, and you can also look up Italo Castillo—he has some pretty insightful ones.

I hope that's helpful!
