Biddle Trick Variation

PPabloBeginner13m2

What It Looks Like

You show a small packet of cards and have a spectator hold them. You riffle through the rest of the deck, letting them stop you at any card they like. After they look at their chosen card, you lose it back into the deck. With a snap of your fingers, the spectator counts through their small packet, and their chosen card has vanished from the deck and appeared right in the middle of their stack.

Why It Works

This effect relies on a classic principle of card magic known as the Biddle move. By controlling the spectator's selection and using a clean, deceptive displacement, you make the card "travel" from the deck into the spectator's hands. It’s effective because the spectator is holding the cards the entire time, making the appearance feel impossible.

What You'll Learn

You’ll learn how to manage a small packet of cards while handling the rest of the deck. Pablo breaks down the timing needed to perform the move smoothly during a walkaround setting. You will also learn how to guide the spectator's interaction so they feel like they have total freedom, even though you are controlling the outcome.

The focus here is on keeping your movements natural. You'll see how to hold the packet, how to riffle the deck for a stop, and how to execute the move without drawing attention to your hands. It’s a practical, "in-the-pocket" routine that works for any casual performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What angles work for this?
This is best performed with the audience in front of you. Because you are handling the cards in your hands, it’s not suitable for being completely surrounded.

Can I do this surrounded?
No, the move requires specific handling of the cards that is best hidden from those directly behind you. Keep your audience in a semi-circle in front.

What props do I need?
Just a standard deck of playing cards. No gimmicks or preparation required.

How much practice does this take?
The move is straightforward. If you spend one session working on the handling of the packet and the timing of the riffle, you'll be ready to show it to friends.
