Heads or Tails: Coin Divination

BBorjaSelf-Working17m1

Guessing a hidden coin

The spectator turns over several coins and covers one with their hand. The magician announces whether it is showing heads or tails. Borja Montón presents the effect using the concept of "nearsighted X-ray vision" and then explains the complete procedure.

The recording covers two ways to interact. In the first, the spectator chooses a number and carries out the indicated changes. In the second, the magician and spectator take turns, varying the experience without changing the props. Instructions are explained, along with the scenarios to recognize and how to present the information before revealing the outcome.

The working is self-working, based on a mathematical principle. The focus is on understanding the logic and guiding the action clearly; no palms or coin changes are required. It is advisable to practice with another person to avoid confusing directions and to become familiar with the different situations.

From trick to mystery

The theoretical section starts from the distinction between trick, illusion, and mystery that Borja attributes to Alfonso Moliné in This Is Magic. The instructor shares his own interpretation and uses the coin routine to talk about curiosity, entertainment, and emotional impact.

The X-ray presentation serves as an example of how to give personality to a simple procedure. It explores what the magician communicates, how the spectator participates, and what can make the experience go beyond merely solving a puzzle.

What you need

Four ordinary coins with clearly recognizable heads and tails, a table, and a spectator. No special coins or prior coin magic technique knowledge are required.
