Coins Through Hanky

A penetration in the spectator's hands

Borja Montón presents and explains a routine in which a coin penetrates a handkerchief held by a spectator. The sound of the coins and the final opening of the handkerchief confirm the result. The focus is on making the magic happen in the participant's hands, not just in the magician's.

The lesson covers finger palm and a French Drop with retention of vision. It reviews the relaxed hand position, the justification of gestures, and the exact moment when attention must follow the coin. It also explains how to give instructions so the spectator holds the handkerchief without hindering the sequence.

The demonstration is broken down step by step and then repeated in full. It covers the false moves leading up to the travel, the sound as confirmation of what happened, and gathering the props at the finish. The classic palm is featured as an additional resource for the finale; it does not replace the main work done with the finger palm.

Props, visibility, and presentation

You need three ordinary coins, two matching and one with a different appearance, plus an opaque handkerchief or scarf. The instructor uses copper and silver coins so they are easily distinguished, but suggests adapting them to your local currency. Opacity matters: it is best to check the fabric against the light before performing. The handkerchief can even be borrowed if it meets the necessary requirements.

The explanation also covers how to let the spectators examine the objects without being overly insistent, and how to build a storyline that justifies the penetration. The presentation about a hand disintegrating matter is offered as an example, not as a script that must be memorized.

The sleights are reviewed in the lesson. Practice them in front of a mirror or by recording yourself, and rehearse the routine with another person before performing it live, especially regarding hand and handkerchief positions.
