Custom Gaff Assembly

Make Your Own Impossible Cards

You'll be able to create custom "gaff" cards that look like they were professionally printed. Instead of spending money on custom decks, you'll learn how to take two regular cards and fuse them into one impossible object. Imagine showing a 6 of spades and a 2 of diamonds, then visually merging them into a single card that you can hand out as a souvenir.

How the Lesson is Taught

Julio walks you through the entire process in one clear video. He starts by showing you exactly how to peel the thin face off a card without ruining it. Then, he shows you how to cut out specific pips and numbers to layer them onto another card. Finally, he teaches you a specific routine and a few color-change moves you can do with the cards you just built.

Is This Hard to Do?

This is a "low-tech" skill that anyone can learn. You don't need to be a master of sleight of hand, but you do need a little bit of patience. If you can use a pair of scissors and a glue stick, you can do this. The hardest part is cutting the shapes accurately so they look natural when you glue them down. It takes about ten minutes to make your first card, and it gets faster with practice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to buy special cards?
No. You can use any standard deck of cards. In fact, this is a great way to use cards from old, incomplete decks that you were going to throw away.

Is this method expensive?
It’s basically free. Professional custom-printed cards can cost $5 or $10 each plus shipping. This method only costs you the price of a glue stick and a couple of regular playing cards.

Will the cards feel thick or bulky?
Not if you peel them correctly. Julio shows you how to keep the layers so thin that the finished card feels like a normal, single card to your spectators.

Can I do this if I'm a beginner?
Yes. This is a great project for beginners because it doesn't require difficult moves. The "magic" is built into the card itself.
