What the Erdnase Change Looks Like

You show a Seven of Spades on the face of the deck. You slowly wipe your hand across the card, and it instantly turns into the Jack of Hearts. Your hand looks empty the whole time, and the change looks like a movie special effect. It’s one of the most visual ways to change a card because there are no fast or jerky movements.

How the Move Works

This technique works by using the natural shape of your hand to hide a secret move. While your hand covers the deck, you use your palm to "steal" a card from behind the one everyone sees. You don't need to be fast. In fact, the slower you do it, the more magical it looks. The secret is all in how you position your fingers and use the muscles in your palm to slide the cards.

What You'll Learn

Julio Ribera breaks down this classic move so you can start practicing it right away. He shows you exactly where to place your pinky to push the card forward invisibly. You'll learn how to use the "fleshy" parts of your palm to grip the card and move it into place without anyone noticing.

If you find the traditional pinky move a bit tough, Julio also teaches a simpler alternative. This version lets you get the same visual result without the finger gymnastics, so you can start performing the change even while you're still mastering the pro version.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Erdnase Change hard to learn?
It takes some practice to get the "feel" of the card sliding under your palm, but it’s not a knuckle-buster. Julio’s alternative method makes it much easier to start with.

Do I need special cards?
No. You can do this with any standard deck of cards. It actually works better with a deck that isn't brand new and slippery.

What skill level is this for?
This is perfect for beginners who want to move past basic "pick a card" tricks and start doing visual magic.

Can people see the move from the side?
This move is best when people are looking at the deck from the front or slightly above. Julio shows you how to cover the "tells" so the secret stays hidden.
