Riffle Peek: Knowing the card before handing out the deck

JJulioIntermediate5m15

This lesson teaches a way to know a chosen card while the presentation gives the impression that the magician was looking away. Julio Ribera demonstrates the scenario with the possibility of handing out the deck afterwards to be shuffled, explaining the sequence that allows you to obtain the information before that handover.

A selection the audience can follow

The tutorial starts from Mechanics Grip and adjusts the grip to riffle the cards. The spectator says stop and memorizes a card. Julio explains a small opening that makes it easier for other people to see it too, and how to maintain the break when dropping the packet.

The presentation can involve another person watching the magician's gaze or adapt to a single spectator. The teaching does not depend on an exact line: it works on the relationship between the selection, audience attention, and body position.

Break, relaxation, and delivery

The explanation develops break control and the coordination needed to relax the hand after showing the card. Julio insists that the selection and the lowering of the deck must form a continuous action before shifting attention back to the magician.

Next, he studies the peek during the gesture of handing out the deck. It is shown from multiple moments in the sequence so you can distinguish the technical action from the wide, natural movement that accompanies it. The purpose is to obtain the information without interrupting the rhythm of the presentation.

What you will learn and what you need

You need an ordinary deck and it helps to be familiar with a pinky break. Practice requires coordinating hands, gaze, and attention; knowing the isolated position does not replace that rehearsal.

Julio mentions a mind-reading routine as an application and explains that this technique is one of his core concepts. Here, the peek and its integration into the selection and handover are taught, not the full development of that routine. No commercial magic product is required.
